The founder, Déborah Kabwang Makuma, comes from a family of coffee farmers, agriculture, and generations of coffee drinkers!
Déborah’s grandparents owned a large farm along the Lubilanji river – in the town of Kamweka, the southern part of D.R. Congo (Lomani province – formerly part of Kasai Occidental). Coffee was among the top crops her grandfather harvested. This, along with her lifelong passion for specialty coffee, inspired the birth of “Kanfuela Kaffé”.
As a devout coffee lover, Déborah’s trip to DR Congo in 2021, encouraged her—even more—to launch Kanfuela upon her return. Learning more about her roots and family’s history and ties to coffee gave her that final push she needed. Everything came full circle.
